About us

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Audience Research and Advocacy team, to aid our mission to inspire futures and implement our Learning Strategy. Audience research is key to our approach which is audience-centred, equitable, evidence-based, collaborative, relevant, agile, efficient and sustainable.

We are now recruiting for an Audience Researcher based at the Science Museum in London (with hybrid working available). This is a fixed term contract until August 2025, working 35 hours per week.

About the role

As an Audience Researcher you will conduct audience research with a wide variety of visitors including teachers, school groups, families, and adults to support the evaluation of the SMG Academy's research-informed training courses as well as SMG Learning's resources, programming, projects and events. To do this you will receive full training on audience research at SMG, including research methods such as interviewing, observation and qualitative data analysis.

Using evidence-based findings, you will make recommendations and provide advice for Learning colleagues across SMG about the needs, wants and expectations of their target audiences. Your research will be used to embed best practice at SMG, report to key internal and external stakeholders and inform future funding bids.

About you

Joining us you will be an effective communicator, with good interpersonal skills and experience working with members of the public. You will have an understanding of research methods, including data collection, analysis and report writing.

Crucially, you will be able to work well as part of a team with the ability to influence others. You will be a good problem solver, with the ability to work flexibly and use your initiative.
