An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly capable, experienced and motivated pharmacy technician to lead the medicines management service and clinical pharmacy technician and assistant team across all King's sites.
The post holder will be responsible for developing, leading and delivering a high quality, clinical service at Denmark Hill, PRUH and Orpington hospitals across all clinical specialties, working closely with the Deputy and Associate Chief Pharmacists, Clinical Services. They will be a role model for the practice of patient-focused pharmacy technician services.
Lead the provision and development of medicines management pharmacy technician and assistant (MMPT and MMPA) services.
# Develop and implement policies, procedures, working practices and service changes for the efficient and safe operation of the MMPT & MMPA services.
# Liaise with Care Group Pharmacists in relation to medicines management activities and ensure that the service is responsive to ward and care group needs.
# Be responsible for the management and training of MMPTs and MMPAs.
# Be responsible for quality assurance of the MMPT and MMPA service, including the development and monitoring of quality indicators.
# Be an active member of pharmacy technician management group, leading pharmacy technician practice and initiatives across King’s.
# Identify wards and other clinical areas within the Trust where service development would be appropriate and to work with the appropriate Principal Pharmacists and the Associate & Deputy Chief Pharmacist, Clinical Services, to bring such developments to fruition.
# Take responsibility for aspects of the clinical pharmacy service activity monitoring and reporting, including training others.
# Ensure effective communication throughout the pharmacy service and across the Trust as necessary of any developments in the ward-based medicines management service.
# Develop, contribute to and review wider policies that have an impact within the pharmacy department and across the Trust, and support compliance with such policies.

Provide a specialist patient-focused technical pharmacy service.
# Provide specialist advice to Pharmacy and Trust staff on matters regarding pharmacy medicines management services, drug expenditure and usage.
# Adhere to the highest principles of customer services when dealing with patients, staff and the public.
# Support with individual patient medication management issues, within own skills and expertise.
# Promote pharmaceutical care for all patients.
# Undertake medicines management accreditations for Medicines Reconciliation, transcribing and patient’s own drug (POD) checks, carrying out appropriate duties with the guidance of a qualified lead pharmacy technician or pharmacist once accredited.
# Make decisions based on the relevant information to solve problems and refer where necessary any issues or queries related to the wards or dispensary.
# Accuracy check medications on the satellite units once the Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) programme is completed, if not already attained.
# Participate in dispensary services, as necessary including leading the day to day running of a ward-based satellite pharmacy if relevant to the specialty. Facilitate the regular and timely returns of non-stock CD’s from clinical areas to pharmacy.
# Monitor and present, when necessary, records of drug cost-savings or efficiencies associated with the development of MMPT/MMPA services.
# Develop and monitor policies for the management and maintenance of PODs.
# Be responsible for the overall management of PODs in the Trust.
# When required, to ensure financial credits or re-use of drugs dispensed for in-patients according to the King’s Pharmacy returns and recycling policy.
# Participate in the overall drug expenditure reporting within Clinical Services, retrieving information and reports from the pharmacy system for Specialist clinical pharmacists and other staff as requested.
# Manage the cross-site MMPT and MMPA service; including direct line management of lead and advanced clinical pharmacy technicians.
# Lead, coach and manage the performance of the junior staff in line with good people management practices, ensuring excellence is recognised and underperformance is addressed.
# Participate in regular performance appraisal meetings and ensure line reports have a clear set of objectives and development plans.
# Ensure the team is compliant with all statutory, mandatory training together with any professional training requirements.
# Manage team absences including sickness in line with Trust policy ensuring the appropriate return to work meetings occur, e-roster is updated and productivity is at keep to the highest possible level.
# Identify and fill any vacancies that arise within the team in line with the Trust’s recruitment policy and process.
# Identify talent and support the internal talent management process in order attract and retain and succession plan for your people.
# Continuously support in improving the morale of the team and implementing a culture of zero-tolerance for bullying and harassment.
# Be the lead for research and audit within the pharmacy medicines management service, and be an active member of the department’s research and audit group.
# Participate in research and audits undertaken in pharmacy with regards to pharmacy clinical and medicines management services and publish and/or present the results of this work locally and nationally.
# Continue to develop own specialist skills for the provision of medicines management services.
# Provide specialist support and advice to MMPTs and other staff in carrying out audit and research projects.

Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
Level 3 or 4 General Pharmaceutical Council-approved integrated competency and knowledge-based qualification or course
Level 3 qualification in management or equivalent senior management experience and relevant short courses (e.g. NHS Leadership programme (Edward Jenner/Mary Seacole), CPPE Leading for Change or NHS Trust leadership or management short course programmes)
Significant experience post registration relevant to hospital pharmacy practice with assessed competencies
Experience of strategic planning and service development
Experience of leading research and audit work
