Join our Internal Controls and Finance Change Team We're on a mission to support effective use of public funds by the department through robust assurance and improvements to the department’s controls environment, which ensure progress towards our objectives in compliance with relevant rules and regulations. You will play a crucial part in improving and maintaining the DESNZ control and assurance frameworks, managing the department’s annual assurance process, and providing controls-based advice on strategic change initiatives within the department. This role would suit Finance/Risk/Control/Audit professionals interested in process and control improvement, applying their professional judgement creatively to solve problems, and influencing senior stakeholders. Person specification Key Responsibilities In this role you will: Maintain and drive improvements in the DESNZ Control and Assurance Frameworks, collaborating with diverse teams across the department, offering advice to senior management and influencing business stakeholders. Plan and coordinate activities for improving the culture of compliance within the department, and ensure that control considerations are included within strategic change initiatives within the department. Drive efficiency in department’s spend of public money through control initiatives and collaboration with the wider team. Coordinate annual assurance exercise, contributing to the Annual Report and Accounts, and provide updates to the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee. Manage and drive improvements within the implementation of the departmental delegations framework, collaborating with process and system owners, and providing advice on financial transactions to Finance Business Partners. Oversee the Government Internal Audit Agency, National Audit Office and Public Accounts Committee liaison function, providing direction and support for clearances, briefings, and communications across the department. Provide quality coaching to more junior team members, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment. The role may also include line management responsibilities. As a line manager, you will be responsible for working with your members of staff to define their objectives, as well as managing their development and performance. Essential Criteria Please ensure your personal statement sets out how your experience meets the following essential criteria, as well as your motivations and ambitions for this role. Strong experience and understanding of work related to controls and assurance. Fully qualified CCAB, CIMA or CIA. We will also consider partially qualified candidates, who can demonstrate particularly strong subject matter expertise in controls and assurance. Proven ability to use analytical skills and sound judgement and consider the big picture when solving complex problems within uncertain contexts, and ability to develop creative and pragmatic solutions which fit business needs. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including ability to explain technical concepts to varied audiences. Experience in presenting confidently in senior forums and ability to influence senior stakeholders. Experience in managing multiple projects, with demonstratable prioritisation skills and ability to support more junior team members.
