As a Section Engineer, you will be key to the construction of a new HVDC converter station as part of the UK's single largest electricity transmission project.

This will see the creation of a 525kV, 2GW, high-voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea transmission cable running from Peterhead, Scotland to Drax, North Yorkshire

Qualifications & Experience

The following are mandatory requirements:

  • Degree, HND in Civil Engineering or equivalent NVQ Level
  • CSCS - Academically or Professionally Qualified Person/Supervisory/Manager
  • SSSTS

The following are desirable requirements:

  • Successful experience at Site Engineer level
  • Qualified to ICE Technician or Incorporated (preferred) level or equivalent

Responsibilities

Being personally responsible for:

  • Communicating effectively at all levels including site management, technical specialists, commercial staff, planners, engineers, supervisory staff operatives, suppliers, third parties and client representatives.
  • Maintaining high personal standards in health and safety.
  • Maintaining high standards in environmental awareness and behaviour.
  • Driving quality delivery through effective planning and right first time delivery.
  • Leading, supervising and mentoring site engineering staff.
  • Monitoring and recording delivery against the agreed programme and construction methods.
  • Maintaining good working relations with client, designer, supply chain and others.
  • Making sure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works before commencement.
  • Formally requesting any missing information in sufficient time to meet the programme.
  • Ensuring that works are accurately and clearly set out before work commences.
  • Confirming by recording in writing, on the same day, any verbal instructions received from the client / designer / clients representative.
  • Ensuring that comprehensive records of resources employed on all works are maintained.
  • Ensuring that Inspection and Test Plans and checklist are in place and followed at the appropriate stages.
  • Completing daily diary records and ensuring they are also being maintain by others under your supervision.
  • Preparing "look ahead" programmes in conjunction with the supervisory staff, coordinated with overall site programme.
  • Monitoring and reporting progress against "look ahead" programmes.
  • Ensuring written risk assessments and activity plans/method statements are in place prior to works commencing.
  • Ensuring that COSHH assessments are in place for materials to be used and that the requirements are being followed.
  • Identifying, recording and reporting change to the scope of works or programme.
  • Ensuring that testing / sampling of materials is carried out as required by the specification.
  • Recording and reporting Non Conformances and ensuring appropriate corrective action is taken.
  • Ensuring materials and workmanship meet the specification and maintaining appropriate records and proofs.
  • Ensuring work records are being kept and in line with the project requirements.
  • Undertaking performance and development reviews as required by the Company and following up on the development activities identified.
  • Contributing to the monthly and quarterly commercial forecast and reporting for your section of works.
  • Ensure that comprehensive records of all resources employed on additional works are maintained and submitted for signature within 24 hours of the work being carried out.
  • Complete Observation cards if you observe something unsafe, damaging to the environment or good enough to share with others. Encourage others to complete the same.
  • Producing waste reconciliation sheets on delivered materials within your work section and compare with tender allowances.
  • Attending and participating in daily safety briefings, activity plan briefings and tool box talks.
