Job Description

Application Engineer

To support our existing business and enable future growth we are seeking an experienced Applications Engineer to provide support to the Business Development team within Silicon Sensing Systems in Plymouth. The role will be based out of our head office in Plymouth, but we also welcome applications from candidates who prefer to be based in Bristol but who are able to work from our Plymouth site 1-2 days per week.

Key responsibilities will include :

  • Obtaining Customer requirements, generation of cardinal points specifications, solution development and compliance tracking.
  • System modelling, algorithm development and data analysis for Customer applications.
  • Knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) techniques applicable to sensor processing.
  • Sensor interfacing techniques including digitisation schemes, sampling rate, over-sampling, hardware interfacing.
  • Data analysis for the generation of Application notes and general product information.
  • Technical support for Customer focused discussions, telecons, meetings and exhibitions
  • Support to customer integration and trials activities.
  • Support client visits and trade shows.

Please note, the role may include travel to UK and foreign customer sites to support technical meetings, exhibitions, trials and programme reviews.

Basic Requirements:

  • Recent experience working in a Systems Engineering or General Engineering role on sensor related product design and development to military, aerospace and commercial standards.
  • It is ESSENTIAL that the successful candidate must be from a Technical background.
  • Ideally from a Technical sales background - people skills are essential
  • Experience of the front end of the product introduction lifecycle (concept definition to development launch)
  • Applicants must have a minimum of a 2:1 Bachelor's Degree in Systems Engineering or a similar engineering discipline

Preferred Requirements:

  • Mathematical modelling tools (e.g. Matlab, Excel).
  • Awareness of Kalman Filters, or similar, design, implementation and tests of such filters.
  • Proficient with sensor interfacing techniques, power regulation, ADCs, sampling, averaging.
  • Inertial navigation/GNSS/GPS systems.
  • Model-based Systems Design and simulation.
  • Integration of systems, hardware or software with military or civil aircraft.
  • Able to interact at all technical levels with technical teams and/or project leaders.
  • International collaboration, multi-cultural team-working.
