North Air provide manpower to operate and maintain Manchester Airport Storage and Hydrant Company (MASHCo) which is a joint venture company, Operated by Air bp to Air bp Regulations. MASHCo is an Upper Tier COMAH facility which supplies all the Aviation Fuel requirements to Manchester Airport.

MASHCO’s maintenance team is a key aspect of the day-to-day operation of the site; ensuring KPI’s are delivered, with routine maintenance and fault rectifications carried out to the highest standards. They promote compliance to Operator standards and actively participate in continuous site improvement.

The electrical maintenance technician is a key role in the effective delivery of the maintenance strategy, with significant emphasis on safety, competence, and workmanship to carry out PPMs in a zoned environment. Fault finding and repairs on electrical (ATEX rated) equipment, ordering spares and diagnosing faults effectively.

The Multi Skilled Technician will also have a mechanical maintenance background and will be competent to assist the mechanical technicians were needed and complete low risk mechanical maintenance on their own.

A key part of the role is to develop and maintain good relationships with management, staff, airport stakeholders and contractors so that the operational plant and hydrant system is maintained effectively, safely, and efficiently. As well as this, it is essential to maintain a high level of professional development.

The starting salary on the role will be £44, 621.76 rising to £52,496.19 once training has been completed.

The post holder’s key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring that established preventative maintenance programmes and unplanned works are carried out on Fuel Farm plant and airfield hydrant systems in accordance with Air BP Regulations and JIG/Operational Standards.
  • Achieve Medium to High-Risk CoW Permit Issuing Authority status.
  • To maintain and repair company equipment and plant to required operational standards.
  • Carry out electrical maintenance in hazardous areas, ensuring compliance with COMPEX regulations.
  • Management of contractors.
  • To ensure that the workshop area and maintenance vehicles are suitably maintained to provide a safe environment for maintenance.
  • To raise ideas that will provide development of procedures or design which will improve safety, efficiency or serviceability or operational equipment.
  • Be responsible for maintaining a satisfactory level of personal training regarding task breakdowns and technical upgrades.
  • Ensure that suitable levels of spare parts are maintained whilst keeping within agreed budgets. 
  • Raise purchase orders for spares and service in a timely manner to allow maximum efficiency of equipment.
  • Actively participate in the near miss reporting process and Safety Observations/conversation process.
  • Operating correct Safety and Emergency Procedures in the event of incidents
  • Maintaining a regular contact with Airport Authorities to develop a working relationship that facilitates the Hydrant system to be operated and maintained in a safe efficient manner.
  • Liaison with key stakeholders, including suppliers.

Experience:

  • Must have been a registered apprentice or undergone some equivalent method of training and have had at least 5 years of practical experience in electrical maintenance work.
  • Knowledge and experience of health & safety procedures/requirements
  • Process safety experience.
  • The ability to work safely whilst meeting deadlines and objectives.
  • City and Guilds 2360 Parts 1 and 2 or 2351 or 2330 levels 2 and 3 or approved equivalent
  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation Work (or approved equivalent).

 

This position requires an airside pass, so will be required to complete a basic criminal records disclosure and have a 5-year employment record, which meets with the British Airport Authority Regulations

 

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of working with aviation fuel or similar petrochemical background.
  • Working Knowledge of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems preferred
  • Experience in carrying out electrical work on electrical/instrumentation equipment in hazardous areas i.e. ATEX equipment.
  • COMPEX modules EX01- EX04 would be very advantageous).
  • Familiarisation with DSEAR Regulations, Hazardous Area Classification/Zoning would be very advantageous.
  • Experience of managing Permit to Work systems, and performing electrical isolations of plant for maintenance and planned works.
