Main duties of the job

Are you looking for a promotion within the field of Gastroenterology? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our existing nursing team. We are looking for a confident, highly motivated, experienced nurse to work within the speciality and assist in the delivery of compassionate care to our patients.

Ward 16 has 24 beds and specialises in acute GI conditions - inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, alcohol dependency, cancer and nutritional problems. We receive admissions from our Acute Medical Unit, GP's, clinics and the endoscopy suite.

We are supported by a team consultants who operate a hot week system and review our patients 6 days a week. You will be expected to work closely within this team to ensure high quality care is delivered and to facilitate safe transfer internally and externally to the hospital.

Within Ward 16 we are supported by our specialist nurses and multi-agency workers who are essential to our patient's journey throughout their stay with us - GI Nurse, Nutrition, Palliative and Drug and Alcohol workers, and provide valuable information to carers and families.

You will be required to demonstrate sound leadership skills, collaborative working, the ability to manage an established team and be enthusiastic in addressing service needs to meet strategic demands.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential


  • Registered Nurse
  • MUST POSSESS 998/A1 QUALIFICATION OR EQUIVALENT Or evidence/experience of teaching and assessing

EXPERIENCE

Essential


  • Must have post registration experience as a registered Staff Nurse
  • Or working towards you Registered Nurse Qualification

SKILLS

Essential


  • Ability to write clearly and legibly. Can Articulate well with good listening skills
  • Competent in Venepuncture and Cannulation, or willing to undertake the necessary training.
  • Competent in Male catheterisation, or willing to undertake the necessary training

KNOWLEDGE

Essential


  • Must demonstrate a knowledge of the role and responsibilities of the post, clinical and non-clinical
  • Awareness of cost effective use of resources
  • Must have a working knowledge relating to Health and Safety
  • Must have a working knowledge or their responsibilities in relation to clinical risk management
  • Must have an understanding of the need to assess the quality of service delivered and how this can be actioned
  • Can demonstrate an awareness of clinical audit or benchmarking processes
