Our well-esteemed Utilities client is on the look out for a Design Coordinator to join their team, for someone to:

  • Provide technical support/guidance throughout the FEED, Detail Design, Construction, and project closure processes
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and technical standards
  • Drive design optimisation, simplification, innovation, and standardisation.
  • Ensure efficient design management whilst mitigating risk of costly programme delays
  • Drive CDM to ensure that designs are safe, constructible and optimise value

Key accountabilities:

You will be working on the Medium Combustion Plant Directive (MCPD) Asset Health Project, which includes renovation / replacement of assets on Gas Compressor Stations throughout the UK, to assure safe continued operation for the next 25 years.

A design co-ordinators responsibilities include:

  • Attending and chairing design meetings with our contractors, ensuring the designs are on track.
  • Responding to Technical Queries, Deviation requests and Requests for Information.
  • Reviewing design packs, ensuring compliance with specifications and procedures.
  • Attending and contributing towards the Formal Process Safety Assessments (FPSA’s), ensuring the designs are safe and fit for purpose.
  • Ensuring equipment is suitable to be installed on the National Transmission System (NTS).
  • Constructability, CDM and temporary works assessment
  • Raising modification work packs in our Maximo management of change system
  • Reviewing registrar reports for specification updates and communicating implications to Project Managers
  • Problem-solving, research and critical thinking
  • Working collaboratively with a direct team of Project Managers, Project Supervisors and Project Operational Representatives and indirectly with Planners, Quantity Surveyors, SHE Advisors, Subject Matter Experts in engineering disciplines and many others.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, Experience

You will need HNC/HND or equivalent experience in either Mechanical or Electrical engineering/construction discipline, and be or working toward professional registration.

You will have good understanding of CDM Regulations and Safety & Environmental legislation, practices, and policies. You must have a full UK driving licence. You must be able to communicate technical details clearly and manage interdependent and multi-disciplinary design works. You will be analytical and detail oriented.

Previous National Transmission System or gas network design experience is desirable, as is formal training in any of the following areas: design approval and appraisal, BIM, H&S, CDM, EUSR, Environmental, IT skills.

We're ideally looking for someone based in the Midlands where most of the project work will be undertaken. Your work is predominantly home / office based, but you will be required to travel to site or other office locations for surveys, meetings, and design compliance audits.
