Purpose & Scope

The Associate Director, Medical Affairs Learning, drives the identification and fulfilment of global learning needs within Medical Affairs processes and operating models, collaborating across functions to lead training initiatives. This role fosters a culture of lifelong learning, ensuring professional growth and engagement through the development and execution of a global training curriculum.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the Medical Affairs Training Strategy, working with stakeholders to:
  • Identify opportunities to improve training curricula and enhance the development and delivery of training solutions.
  • Address training requirements and gaps related to business processes and initiatives.
  • Ensure Medical Affairs teams globally are effectively trained on processes and models.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders, line managers, and functional leads to prioritize and manage curriculum design, content development, and training execution, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Maintain training compliance standards and innovate through modern methodologies, leveraging adult education principles and emerging technologies to enhance learning experiences.
  • Establish and implement best practices for professional development and stay informed on educational trends, tools, and models, ensuring progressive learning standards.
  • Partner with internal teams, including HR, Digital Excellence, and process owners, to align training initiatives with process improvements and operational updates.
  • Measure and track the effectiveness of training programs, leveraging KPIs to monitor outcomes and enhance results.
  • Build and implement a multi-year global training strategy to foster engagement and professional growth across the Medical Affairs community.
  • Manage relationships with vendors to develop and deliver training programs, ensuring quality and alignment with goals.

Strategic Training Development:

  • Conduct training needs assessments to identify opportunities for enhancing curricula, including onboarding programs and role-based learning.
  • Lead initiatives to develop disease-state and digital excellence training in collaboration with HR and other teams.

Technology & Reporting:

  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement innovative instructional technologies for both virtual and in-person training.
  • Support the Digital Excellence team in developing and maintaining a training matrix for Medical Affairs systems, ensuring effective execution of system enhancements.
  • Enhance digital tools and communication strategies to promote learning and networking globally.

Organizational Context

  • Reports to the Director of Medical Affairs Training, who oversees the MA Training Function.
  • Leads learning design and development initiatives, partnering with geographic markets and functional teams to deliver customized training solutions.
  • Interfaces with HR, MedComm, and Digital Excellence teams to address product, capability, and role-based training needs.
  • Collaborates with Commercial teams to identify potential areas for partnership.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS).
  • 5+ years of experience leading training initiatives in the healthcare or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proficiency in strategic planning, training design, and adult education principles, including LMS utilization.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills for cross-functional engagement.
  • Expertise in managing multiple projects and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with instructional design tools (e.g., Articulate, Camtasia).
  • Candidates need to have experience working with Snr. Leaders.
  • Candidates need to have either formal education of Adult Learning Theory or practical experience of utilizing Adult Learning Theory.
  • Candidates must have prior experience working in a matrix environment.
  • Candidates need to have hands-on experience in creating training.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience managing training systems and adapting to regulatory or technological changes.
  • People management and project management experience.
  • Proficiency in leading large-scale, complex projects.
