About the Role

The Head of Talent Management is responsible for designing, leading, and implementing an integrated talent strategy that delivers against James Fisher & Sons plc (JFS) talent needs now and for the future. The role holder is a thought leader, influencer and agent of change as it relates to organizational design, talent and workforce planning and will provide leadership for learning, performance management, talent assessment, and succession planning. She or he will be passionate about nurturing talent and fostering a culture of continuous learning and leadership excellence.

This role will directly impact the Company’s ability to assess, attract, motivate, develop, and retain top talent, thereby enabling the business to deliver on its objectives.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Thought partner to the CHRO in determining and executing on strategic talent and succession plans for JFS overall.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert and leads the Talent Centre of Excellence to build out offerings related to all areas of talent planning, development & engagement.
  • Develop and implement a valued talent strategy aligned to JFS HR strategy and overall business objectives, fostering a culture of empowerment, accountability and high performance teams and individuals.
  • Responsibility for the Learning and Development and Early Career teams.
  • Designs and implements leadership development program.
  • Designs and integrates a talent framework for identifying and nurturing top talent
  • and key roles based on organisational priorities to ensure exceptional people
  • performance.
  • Designs and implements the career pathing framework to be used by JFS
  • Leads the annual talent identification process and partners with senior leaders to identify key talent, create development plans, support and monitor their implementation
  • Provides structure for aligning talent management programs and processes with the succession planning for the organization.
  • Champions JFS’s equity, diversity and inclusion philosophy and practice in all talent programs and processes, in support of a diverse and inclusive culture and workforce.
  • Ensures the execution of the talent review process at Senior levels, including follow up with leaders on the creation and execution of development plans and plans to mitigate resource or performance gaps.
  • Identifies organizational capability gaps, analyses people-related data and leading
  • trends, and partners with various stakeholders across JFS to identify
  • talent needs, uncover potential, manage performance, and develop future
  • leaders.
  • Plans, implements, and manages the Company’s annual performance management process. Acts as the process and functional owner for the performance management system.
  • Works collaboratively with the Change Manager to develop effective and efficient people change management practices, efforts, and communications at both JFS and local level, ensuring that new or revised programs, initiatives, processes, and systems are well supported in their communication, adoption, and implementation.
  • Partners and collaborates with relevant stakeholders in setting direction, planning, configuring, and implementing efficient and effective technology-related solutions in support of the Talent Management, Planning and Development functions.
  • Develops and sustains strong, collaborative partnerships with stakeholder groups
  • both inside and outside JFS to proactively identify, resolve and coordinate
  • efforts in relation to strategic talent management programs and initiatives, and to
  • act as an Expert providing coaching, advice and guidance as required.
  • Drives a continuous improvement mindset and practice to ensure all new and
  • current programs and practices are designed, and regularly reviewed and
  • streamlined for maximum efficiency and effectiveness in alignment with the
  • strategic Company goals and with a continued lens on modernization.
  • Acts as a senior leader within the HR function by building strong relationships with the CHRO and HR colleagues, and by actively participating and leading by example in the delivery of all aspects of the HR and JFS mandates.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

About You

You excel in building strong stakeholder relationships and demonstrate organizational agility, effectively navigating a matrixed environment. With experience in providing leadership, coaching, guidance, and support to management and employees at all levels, you address a wide range of human resources issues with expertise and confidence.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Degree or diploma from a recognised post-secondary institution in Human Resources Management, or a related field is required.
  • Master’s Degree in Industrial Psychology, Organization Development, Human Resources, or related field desirable.
  • Professionally qualified CIPD and/or SHRM-CP or an equivalent is desirable.
  • Minimum ten years’ relevant experience in key areas of talent management in a leadership role or in an HR Operations role with extensive talent management and engagement focus.
  • Functional expertise in onboarding, workforce and succession planning, employee and leadership development, performance management and career pathing initiatives required.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and establish trust; with a focus on building a High-Performance Culture and Service-Focused Leadership.
  • Experience providing leadership, coaching, guidance, advice, and support to all levels of management and employees on human resources issues.
