Job Title: Instrument Technician

Company: RSD

Location: Established refinery

Basic Function and Scope:
Provide instrument and control system expertise to the Maintenance Department

Safety & Environmental Responsibilities:

  1. Understand the requirements of work for a Top Tier COMAH Establishment
  2. Comply with the COMAH Safety Report
  3. Understand the Terminal Environmental Permit and ensure compliance
  4. Maintain up-to-date method statements and risk assessments for Instrument activities
  5. Be fully aware of Emergency Response procedures

Tasks and Duties:

  • Install and maintain all instrument and control systems on the terminal
  • Work closely with other members of the Maintenance Team
  • Use the MMS for equipment records, work orders, and scheduling periodic maintenance jobs

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. HNC in instrumentation/control systems
  2. Equivalent relevant experience
  3. Good standard of general education
  4. Experience in the oil or gas processing industry
  5. Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and Windows

Technical Understanding:

  • Work on site SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems)
  • Knowledge of EN 61511 and hazardous area equipment classification
  • COMPEX units EX01, EX02, EX03, and EX04
  • Selection, installation, and maintenance of instrumentation & tank gauging
  • Rockwell SCADA systems (RSView)
  • Tank farm management systems
  • Rockwell PLC systems (SLC500 & ControlLogix)
  • Awareness of new and emerging technologies

  • Comply with company policies and procedures
  • Perform duties in a safe and ethical manner

Financial Dimensions:

  • Cost equipment or services for the company
  • Minimize costs while complying with ethical practices

Problem Solving, Communication & Job Complexity:

  • Participate in status meetings with work teams
  • Effectively communicate work information to superiors
  • Resolve issues in a timely fashion
  • Communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully
