Improve individuals’, communities’, and society’s understanding and awareness of the relationship between drug / alcohol use, misuse, vulnerability and exclusion, in order to overcome barriers which perpetuate the cycle
Everything else flows from this, requiring services to be person-centred, flexible and wide-ranging to effectively meet the diversity of need. Contractual base will be in one of our buildings across Dyfed (Llanelli, Aberystwyth, Cardigan or Haverfordwest) – this will be flexible depending on the location of the successful candidate.
There is an expectation that the successful candidate will be travelling and covering work across the 3 counties of Dyfed – this is a regional post.
37 hours per week – some weekend and evening work will be required.
£Contract:
Fixed term until July 2025.
DDAS works with substance users and their families, friends and carers in both community and criminal justice settings, delivering specific services for those involved in the criminal justice system.DDAS supports service users and their loved ones to sustain the gains they make in treatment by providing aftercare and peer support to help build social capital and prevent relapse.
DDAS is a consortium comprising three organisations, Barod, Kaleidoscope Project and G4S. DDAS is aimed at adult drug and/or alcohol users aged 18 years of age and over, and their families, friends and carers.
DDAS services are provided in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory, and professional manner and in a way that demonstrates courtesy and respect for individuals using substances, and sensitivity to their unique personal situations and experiences.
Manage and report on offenders who have statutory orders made by the Court for treatment of substance misuse under the Drug Rehabilitation, Alcohol Treatmentand Rehabilitation Activity Requirements.
Undertaking risk assessments /emergency interventionsto minimise prison recalls for service users
Review and identify treatment pathways for service users not in service with DDAS but deemed a risk of re-offending by Probation or the courts
To link with Dyfed Powys police vulnerability hub.
To undertake court based/remote contact DRR / ATR assessments The post holder will assist DDAS’s Service Manager and Assistant Manager with the collation, identification and communication of:
New drug trends across the three counties with our Force Intelligence Bureau colleagues in Dyfed-Powys Police.
Information and intelligence of county lines activity The post-holder will also work with partners on developing the prevention agenda by:
Representing DDAS at various prevention and community events and working groups
Widening the promotion and delivery of Naloxone
To provide targeted support for CJ service users where offender managers in National Probation Service are considering enforcement due to lack of compliance or escalation of risk. Engage with identified offenders or ex-offenders referred to the service through the Criminal Justice System, including the provision of drug and alcohol arrest referral cover at Police Stations, attendance for Court duties and Prison visits.
Complete comprehensive assessments, care planning and case management for problematic substance misusers involved with the criminal justice system.
Carry out detailed risk assessments against criteria, including Required Assessments, DRR/ATR and RAR statutory case assessments
Support service users by promoting recovery through the provision of time limited 1:1 and group work programmes, outreach visits and multi-agency meetings.
Notify Probation Offender Managers /supervisors of attendance and non-compliance promptly for statutory service users as required.
Support access to Accommodation, ETE, Healthcare, Financial and Family/Relationship support services as necessary.
Deliver harm reduction initiatives including NSPs, Naloxone training, and Dried Blood Spot Testing Services where required
Contribute to the DDAS Digital Team to raise awareness of our service and what it offers on social media platforms
Devise, with service users, individually tailored time-limited support plans, based on a clear assessment of need that assist individuals in building social capital
Liaise closely with DDAS Engagement and Recovery Services, external Tier 3 providers including CDAT, IFSS and Social Services, Police, Probation, IOM teams, and other Criminal Justice agencies, and Tier 4 providers to ensure seamless transitions to treatment services
Enter data onto the DDAS case management system, Palbase; Probation DELIUS and Police NICHE systems
Provide training or presentations to internal staff or external organisations as required
Liaise with the Area Planning Board’s Prevention Manager and other partners (Dyfed-Powys Police Neighbourhood Policing Teams, Community Safety Partnership members etc) to problem-solve community issues.
Contribute to the safety of communities from drug and alcohol related crime and negative impacts on health services
To link closely with the Prevention Manager in the commissioning team and develop a partnership approach to prevention.
To widen the promotion and accessibility of Naloxone training and dispensing to those individuals who have experienced a non-fatal poisoning in a timely manner across Dyfed.
To provide targeted support for CJ service users where offender managers in National Probation Service are considering enforcement due to lack of compliance or escalation of risk.
Ensure appropriate safeguarding and data protection principles are adhered to in working practice
The post will involve some evening and weekend working on the police station custody arrest referral rota, night-time economy campaigns and for our open access and needle exchange services. Qualifications and training
GCSE English Literature or Language, grade C or above (or equivalent).
Health and Social Care Diploma Level 3 (or equivalent).
Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their ethnic, cultural, social backgrounds, their gender, age, religious belief, disability and sexual orientation.
Proven ability to network and build professional relationships
Excellent IT skills: competency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint and Internet Explorer.
Flexibility to work at multiple locations and flexible working hours outside of the normal working week
Full, current driving licence and use of a car which is insured for business use.
Good IT skills: managing team administration issues, monitoring and clinical activity data reporting. Displays initiative, takes responsibility for own performance, and understands the remit of role.

Welsh Language: The post holder is expected to work to the standards set within Barod’s Welsh Language statement and to help to implement Barod’s ‘Welsh Language Action Plan,’ as reviewed on an annual basis.
Facilitation: The post holder is expected to promote and support the concerned other PACT group and peer support group, and also support the wider training and campaigns of DDAS. This support includes participation and facilitation at training, events and other group work activities as and when requested.
The postholder is expected to undertake sessions covering the live Webchat service when necessary to support the running of this facility.
This may include work at multiple locations and flexible working hours outside of the normal working week and may include weekends.
This role involves travel across the region both to offices and community settings (with occasional possibility of transporting volunteers/clients) therefore the post holder is required to have a full current driving licence, permitting them to drive their vehicle in the UK and have full access to their own personal mode of transport which is insured for business use.
