Insurance Development Underwriter

The Life Science and Clinical Trials Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting business within the remit of the Life Science product line which sits within the International Casualty team in London. This role involves working alongside the Life Science Senior Underwriter to continue to develop Markel International’s Life Science proposition, including extending the distribution of the Clinical Trials platform.
Business Unit overview:
The Wholesale division is comprised of underwriting teams, as well as an award-winning claims team, underwriting support, delegated underwriting, and strategic business development. Work with class Senior Underwriter, wider team, actuarial and other parts of the business to implement the underwriting strategy and monitor progress and developments
Champion continuous improvements and continually work with the team to improve end to end process and data
Confidently and positively demonstrate the field of our chosen underwriting approach
Attend regular broker and client meetings and travel to represent Markel as required
Apply appropriate risk management practices including aggregations and guideline controls and any measures required to limit Markel’s exposure
Providing underwriting support to overseas offices and handling of referral approvals
Work with the Director of International Casualty and Senior Underwriter on portfolio management
Have a detailed understanding of the life science and clinical trials insurance market
Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
Have a network of London and international distribution channels
Underwriting Insights and Risk Acceptance
Underwriting Data Analysis and Claims Service
