Lead DevOps Engineer | Azure, Terraform, Synapse | Tech for Good / Charity

This is the chance to work for a unique organisation as a Lead DevOps Engineer Our client is a not-for-profit charity that reviews/certifies companies, governments and financial institutions for their environmental impact and awareness. Our client is the main global authority that certifies and monitors the environmental impact that companies/governments have on the natural environment. Essentially, they provide the equivalent of the “Fair Trade” sticker that you would see on a jar of coffee but for businesses and local governments.

The organisation is over 20 years old, headquartered in the UK with an office in central London and has 700 staff globally (100 circa in the UK).

As the Lead DevOps Engineer, you will be reporting to the CTO who manages the tech team of circa 30 people comprising developers, data engineers, QA, and DevOps.

You will occupy the most senior DevOps position in the company and it is an opportunity for you to establish the DevOps function in the company and drive the processes, procedures, and methodologies in a manner you deem fit.

There will be more hires into what will become your team, it is an opportunity for someone who has team leadership experience or someone willing and excited at the prospect of leading and building effective teams.

The Client's Tech Stack:

  • Azure: App services, Function Apps, Container Apps
  • Across engineering: React (Next.js), TypeScript, NodeJS (NestJS), Prisma ORM, Python, Synapse, Azure DF, Power BI, Cypress, Terraform, JMeter

Responsibilities:

  • Create, manage, and own the processes, procedures, and methodologies for the DevOps faculty across engineering
  • Utilise Terraform to automate and manage cloud infrastructure
  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure Pipelines
  • Integrate and maintain code quality tools such as SonarCloud, Ruff, Black, and Pylint.
  • Implement monitoring solutions to proactively identify and address issues

About You:

  • Knowledge, interest, and passion for the environmental and/or sustainability space will be an advantage.
  • Experience with Terraform and Synapse.
  • At least two years of experience in leading DevOps for a large-scale Azure platform
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to develop DevOps approaches and strategies
  • Experience working in Agile and DevOps environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop the team, advocate for DevOps best practices and influence adoption
