EARLY YEARS PRACTITIONER - Stables Nursery - Great Chart

The post holder, under the direction of the Head of The Nursery, will inspire excellence using their skills, knowledge, personal experience, willingness to learn and passion for early years education. You will deliver evidence based practice to ensure the highest quality of care and nurture for the children across the nursery in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.

Qualifications: NVQ3 or equivalent in Childcare preferred but will consider exceptional newly qualified candidates with at least a Level 2 qualification

Experience: experience of working with babies under the age of 3 in a nursery setting

To work as part of the wider nursery team to share the day-to-day workload as delegated or required.
• To independently manage your time well ensuring you are punctual and complete the tasks you carry out each day in good time
• To ensure you are well presented at all times following the policy guidance on dress code and appearance.
• Always keeping in the front of your mind you are the face of the nursery.
• To ensure at all times the safeguarding and welfare of the children across the nursery and report any concerns you may have following the policy guidance.
• To act as a role model at all times, ensuring you are promoting excellent practice in line with policy guidance and the vision and values of The Nursery
• To be able to use your best judgement and initiative in line with the vision and values of the nursery should the need arise.

• To attend all special events unless special permission has been agreed by the Head of the Nursery.
• Planning and Preparation

• To create a happy, stimulating and welcoming environment in line with the vision and values of The Nursery to ensure children can develop and grow as individuals
• To be creative in your practice and use your initiative to plan exciting and effective opportunities for the children across the nursery.
• To ensure equality of opportunity and have an excellent awareness of differentiation to cater for individual needs as set out in the School’s Equal Opportunities Policy
• To be aware of and plan effectively for ‘next steps’ of development including the awareness of the next steps after age 3 when children move onto pre-prep.

To use observation effectively to understand children’s next steps of development, their interests, schemas and patterns of behaviour.
• To use observation to effectively document children’s progress, in all areas of the EYFS curriculum.
• To use observation to effectively inform you planning.
• To have an excellent knowledge of ‘Development Matters’ and the stages of development outlined in the document to adequately make assessment judgements of a child’s stage of development.
• To ensure you are able to effectively communicate to all concerned audiences the observation of, planning for and assessment of the children in the nursery.
• To participate in parent consultation events ensuring what is communicated is of the highest quality.
• To use observation and assessment alongside your knowledge of child development to identify if a child has any developmental delay and to take appropriate action in line with policy guidance.

To take ownership of your own CPD by engaging fully in the performance management cycle.
• To undertake any further training or other professional development required for your post or as advised by the Head of the Nursery
• To be a supportive colleague that is able to hold professional conversations and give constructive feedback as part of the nursery’s peer to peer observation programme.
• To ensure your body language, manner and position make you physically available to the children in the nursery.
• To ensure your behaviour, manner, language and presentation make you a positive role model.
• To create positive meaningful relationships with the children in the nursery to ensure you can motivate and challenge children effectively.

Engagement, enjoyment and wellbeing

• To ensure you are aware of and able to effectively manage the daily routines and transitions of the children in the nursery
• To respond to the needs communicated by the children in the nursery sensitively, appropriately and in timely manner
• To ensure the environment is safe, calm and organised at all times so the children can feel calm and supported and be confident to explore, learn play and develop.
• To be aware of and support children’s individual needs to ensure they are able to effectively engage in the EYFS curriculum.
• To work closely with families to ensure a smooth transition into the nursery for new starters. To follow and where necessary create risk assessments to ensure the safety, health and well-being of everyone in the nursery

In addition to the above this role requires you to carry out any other duties necessary to your role as instructed by the Head of the Nursery.
