Position: Grid Connection Specialist (PV, Wind, BESS)

Location: London - On-site/Hybrid

Employment Type: Full-time (Permanent)

Thor Engineering is currently partnered with a European Renewable Developer who have multiple offices Spain, Italy, UK & Germany. They are in search of an experienced Grid Connection Engineer to support the growth of their UK pipeline.

They are very well funded and are growing through a mixture of M&A & Greenfield projects. You will be responsible for taking projects from Origination - RTB.

Responsibilities:

The right person will identify grid origination opportunities, progressing grid offers to RTB status and/or energisation ready. You will have the opportunity to shape the internal grid process and participate in external industry working groups to influence the ever-changing grid connection policies.

  • Conduct network analyses on both distribution and transmission levels to pinpoint potential locations with available capacity.
  • Coordinate with DNOs/National Grid for preliminary meetings and prepare grid applications.
  • Offer technical scrutiny for grid proposals, including optimizing connection solutions, cost assessments, work schedules, and curtailment evaluations.
  • Supply grid-related inputs such as substation design, cost breakdowns, regulatory charges, financial modelling data, and planning requirements for tendering and project planning.
  • Supervise ICPs and consultants to advance projects to Ready to Build (RTB)/energization stage, including assessing design submissions and monitoring construction progress.
  • Provide timely support throughout sales processes.
  • Generate grid reports and furnish strategic advice to the Management team.

Experience:

  • Experience working for a DNO/National Grid in the planning/design/connections directorate or a similar role in a renewables developer is desired.
  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred, and an MSc would be desirable.
  • Additional experience in IPP project acquisition, community solar, national and regional grid analysis, multinational environments, legal, and full-cycle development would be advantageous.
