Our mission is to enable, and inspire, public sector organisations to move towards net zero. We deliver government funding schemes to support councils, schools, housing associations, hospitals and universities boost their energy efficiency, reduce their impact on the environment, save money and to remove more households from fuel poverty. We work with the UK government and the devolved administrations in Scotland and Wales. As well as managing the funding schemes, we provide professional advice, expertise and support to grant recipients throughout all stages of their projects. We also offer insight, intelligence and influence by sharing knowledge and lessons learned from project delivery to help improve future schemes and policy development.

We are seeking a dedicated Assistant Director to join our Public Sector Decarbonisation Team. In this role, you will manage 2-3 Senior Programme Managers who oversee programme delivery teams of up to 24 staff members. Reporting to the Director of Programmes, you will help drive performance across various funding programs and set strategic directions for specific teams.

Key Responsibilities;

Performance and Delivery

  • Lead team performance to meet KPIs set by DESNZ and other funders
  • Manage and coordinate performance reports for the Executive Team, Board, and DESNZ
  • Oversee and manage operational and strategic risks, escalating as needed
  • Approve procedures, guidance, and training for staff to achieve key deliverables

Project Management

  • Develop relationships with strategic stakeholders and delivery partners
  • Lead funding programs up to £500m
  • Influence policy decisions with key stakeholders in DESNZ, Scottish Government, and Welsh Government
  • Approve funding awards over £50,000
  • Oversee forecasting and budgeting, managing risk of abandonment
  • abandonmentEstablish systems for effective project delivery and authorize strategic changes
  • Support strategy development and resource planning for the Public Sector Decarbonisation team

Management

  • Deputise for the Director of Programs when required
  • Lead and motivate up to 3 Senior Program Managers and a team of up to 40 staff
  • Develop and adhere to Salix working procedures, improving corporate processes
  • Contribute to strategic planning and budget setting
  • Promote Salix's reputation for excellence and carbon footprint reduction
