We are looking for a driven Senior Land Buyer/Land Manager to help be a part of the continued growth of the Metis Homes business. Metis is a dynamic, well-funded and multiple award-winning SME housebuilder, with significant growth plans and always with a substantial appetite for land acquisition, regardless of market conditions.
Metis is well known for its entrepreneurial approach to land acquisition, with the business constantly geared towards dealmaking, led by its MD (Adam O’Brien) and Land Director (Mike Burton), both of whom are experienced land professionals and shareholders in the business ensuring an incisive decision-making process.
The Metis business is growing, with the ambition to deliver 100+ homes a year in a diverse range, with strong core values of integrity, professionalism and high standards of customer satisfaction. An essential requirement for the business is to grow the strategic land bank to well in excess of 1000 plots in the next few years alongside immediate land deals year on year. The business is strong with high calibre people throughout the team of 30 staff, and strong financially with a 7 figure balance sheet in Metis supported further by a 9 figure balance sheet in its parent company, RO Trading, which is Metis’ majority shareholder and sole equity provider.
Metis has one of the best planning records of any developer in the south, having achieved planning on all but 1 site in 17 years of business. This inherent planning strength sets us apart from most of our competition and allows us to buy land in all structures – options, conditional contracts, promotion agreements, JV arrangements and unconditionally where appropriate. It’s all about adding value, with land being the lifeblood of the business.
The Ideal Candidate
We need a high calibre, hungry land buyer who is already demonstrating a good awareness of the land-buying process (perhaps 3 or 4 years’ impressive experience) with an ability to take a site from offer through to exchange of contracts. We are looking for a candidate who wants to take their career to the next level, where they will have a genuine chance to grow with the company and evolve into an elite land professional. Reporting directly to the Land Director and with a day-to-day interaction with the MD as well as the rest of the senior management team, this candidate will enjoy a good level of autonomy and a fast decision-making process, enabling deal making at all times, as well as the opportunity to develop themselves within a high calibre team.
With funding in place for its next phase of growth, the business is perfectly set up for this person’s role; we cannot have enough good land deals under contract. Performance is rewarded at Metis.
