Bridge Inspector Responsibilities

Carrying out General Inspection and Principal inspection of Highway Structures in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges.

  1. Recording and reporting on all inspections including the use of Structures Management System in accordance with the CSS Bridge Condition Index system.
  2. Interpretation of bridge structure defects in construction materials such as steel and concrete.
  3. Understanding the importance of efficient reporting of urgent and severe defects that have the potential to reduce capacity and performance.
  4. Recording defects on site and reporting via online structural management systems.
  5. Liaison between departments, arrange traffic management, access equipment and compile task briefing sheets.

Bridge Inspector Requirements:

Technical knowledge of bridge structures.

  1. Experience in Civil Engineering with particular relevance to inspection and maintenance of highway structures assets.
  2. Sound technical understanding of construction materials and forms.
  3. Good knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety and CDM 2015.
  4. Experienced in the management and maintenance of trunk or local road network.
  5. Demonstrable experience in a relevant discipline preferably involving work of a structural or building nature is desirable.
  6. Full valid UK driving licence.
