VAT Director – indirect taxes business line leader

As a dynamic and entrepreneurial VAT Director, you will establish and lead a new indirect taxes business line as part of an exciting and growing tax advisory business with great opportunities to develop work from the K3 Group’s portfolio of professional services businesses. This position requires an innovative thinker with a track record of delivering high quality VAT advice and developing strong relationships with clients and introducers.

The successful candidate will spearhead the development and growth of the new indirect taxes team and work with the other business lines of K3TA to deliver multi-disciplinary advice and structuring projects. A budget to recruit a team of 2-3 staff is available from day one.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business Line Development:
    • Identify key focus areas in the VAT advisory market to deliver profitable advice in an efficient and scalable way.
    • Develop a comprehensive business plan to build and grow the indirect tax team within the framework of K3TA’s vision and growth strategy.
    • Assess market opportunities to expand team to deliver advice in other areas of UK indirect tax
  • Technical leadership:
    • Maintain a high level of VAT knowledge and expertise.
    • Manage quality and risk processes to ensure consistent high standard of advice across work delivered by indirect taxes team.
  • Client Acquisition and Management:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their business needs and providing tailored VAT solutions.
    • Identify potential clients, prepare proposals, and lead client presentations to win new business.
  • Recruit, train, and manage a high-performing team of indirect tax professionals.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to foster a collaborative and results-driven work environment.
  • Work collaboratively with other K3TA business lines to drive a successful integrated business
  • Develop and manage the budget for the indirect tax business line, ensuring profitability and sustainable growth.
  • Monitor financial performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Market Positioning:
    • Develop marketing and branding strategies to position the business line as a leader in indirect tax services.
    • Represent the business line at industry events and contribute thought leadership content.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience (10+ years) in indirect tax advice.
  • Strong understanding of UK VAT rules and international VAT concepts.
  • Demonstrated success in business development and client management.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and presentation abilities.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for creating and growing a business.

Education:

Appropriate professional qualification (accountant and/or chartered tax advisor) or equivalent experience gained in a tax authority or government agency context.
