We are seeking a Unity Technical Designer to join our team of engineers and clinicians in developing high-fidelity, interactive simulations for surgical training and beyond.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Unity Technical Designer / Simulation Artist to work closely with our Senior AR Engineer and cross-functional teams to develop high-fidelity, interactive surgical scenarios. This role goes beyond typical Unity development to include creating realistic physics-based simulations, such as skin rendering, blood flow, and brain deformation dynamics. Your contributions will be vital in creating training tools that replicate real-world surgical challenges with unmatched precision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize immersive surgical simulations using Unity.
  • Implement and refine realistic physics-based models, such as tissue deformation, bleeding, and resections, for enhanced clinical realism.
  • Collaborate with the Senior AR Engineer to expand XARlabs’ proprietary tools and features.
  • Debug and optimize 3D content and ensure smooth performance across MR platforms.
  • Work closely with clinicians and subject matter experts to translate medical requirements into interactive scenarios.
  • Create and integrate high-quality 3D assets, shaders, and animations into Unity.
  • Prototype and iterate on new ideas, adding innovative dimensions to existing models and simulations.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in Unity development, with a focus on AR/VR applications.
  • Strong proficiency in C# programming and Unity’s scripting framework.
  • Hands-on experience with physics-based modeling and real-time rendering in Unity.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling tools like Maya, Blender, or 3ds Max, with an understanding of rigging, animation, and shaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize assets for real-time performance in AR/VR environments.
  • Familiarity with version control tools (e.g., Git) and agile workflows.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with AR/VR hardware like HoloLens, Magic Leap, or Meta Quest.
  • Background in medical visualization or training simulations.
  • Expertise in advanced rendering techniques for realistic materials (e.g., skin, blood flow).
  • Knowledge of real-time physics engines and frameworks for tissue deformation and interactions.
  • Experience in integrating AI-based features or adaptive learning tools into Unity simulations.
