Metal powders are used in many applications including 3D metal printing, and the demand is growing year on year. For this reason, we are looking for a Production Technician to join our growing Team. Job overview: The Production Technician is part of the team responsible for the set up and operation of the atomising equipment for the manufacture of metal powders. This equipment uses induction furnaces to melt metal alloys in an enclosed chamber, either in a vacuum or inert atmosphere. High pressure inert gas is used to “atomise” a molten metal stream, instantly freezing the metal, and converting it into metal powder. The powder is then sieved and packed to the customer’s requirement. Main responsibilities and duties

  • Working with the Production Team to fulfil production orders for metal powder
  • Safe loading of raw material into the induction furnace
  • Melting, pouring and atomising of metal alloys
  • Cleaning of the atomiser and components to a high standard
  • Operation of the Atomiser through PLC
  • Carry out Planned Maintenance
  • Management of consumable products associated with production
  • Set up and run powder processing equipment, i.e.: sieving machines and blending machines
  • Testing powders with test sieves and other lab equipment
  • Maintaining a clean, organised workspace and promote safe practices
  • Operation of an overhead crane
Required knowledge and skills
  • Experience within industrial/manufacturing operating environments
  • A mechanical, technical knowledge and ability
  • Experience in equipment maintenance
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Pro-active mind-set with the ability to work autonomously where required
  • Confidence to work at height and in small spaces
  • Full drivers’ licence
  • Computer literate
Desired (optional) experience
  • Lean Manufacturing
  • Fork-lift (Counterbalance) licence
  • Operation of PLC controller types
  • Metal melting experience
