Job summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, integration and testing of battery packs in the powertrain and aircraft. They should be experienced working with Li-ion cells and high voltage (60-1000VDC) battery packs and be knowledgeable about relevant safety requirements and procedures.

Your responsibilities
Collaborate with colleagues to capture battery cell requirements (safety, size, weight, performance, thermals etc.) to meet the needs of the powertrain and aircraft.
Lead electrical and thermal modelling of batteries: from single cell up to pack level.
Investigate and liaise with cell suppliers, lead selection and support procurement processes.
Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure delivery of parts to specification in a timely fashion.
Contribute to FMEA of the systems, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
Lead testing and evaluation of prototype battery cells and packs.
Supervise and/or train colleagues in the safe handling, storage and testing of battery cells and packs.
Ensure the safety and reliability of storage and testing equipment for battery cells and packs; supervise/arrange maintenance.
Document and process test results and feedback to colleagues and suppliers to continuously improve cell quality and consistency.
Support battery pack design, development and production.
Support battery pack integration into powertrain/aircraft.
Support testing and troubleshooting of overall powertrain and aircraft systems.
Manage project work packages through full lifetime maintaining budgetary control, risk management and technical quality to ensure work packages meet their objectives.
Identify innovation opportunities and protect intellectual property.

Essential
University Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar.
3+ years’ experience modelling and testing Li-ion battery cells.
Experience with battery testing equipment e.g., battery cyclers, environmental chambers, potentiostats.
Knowledge of similar battery cell chemistries.
Has previously been involved in developing and testing a high voltage (60-1000VDC) battery pack.
Experience with modelling software, e.g., ANSYS, PyBaMM, MATLAB Simulink.
Experience with Python, MATLAB or similar.

Desirable
Hold a PhD in a relevant field.
3+ years’ experience developing and testing battery packs.
Experience doing FMEA of electrical systems.
Experience with electrical systems including an electric motor.
Experience with electrical systems including a hydrogen fuel cell.
Knowledge of aerospace battery standards.
Experience with experiment control software, e.g., LabView, MATLAB Simulink.
Possession of High Voltage handling qualification.
