Grid Connections Manager

Salary: Perm is up to £85,000. Contract is also available for this position.

MDE is currently partnered with a leading energy business dedicated to providing flexible generation and grid stability services to support the transition to net zero.

Over the past six years, our client has developed over 600MW of generation capacity for its investors. They are also managing the construction of multiple large-scale grid stability projects, culminating in one of the largest stability initiatives ever undertaken in the UK.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage and deliver EHV, HV, and LV grid connections for new grid stability projects across the UK, from early stages through to operational assets.
  • Oversee the entire grid code (G99) compliance process with NGESO, transmission and distribution operators, and the project supply chain to ensure timely attainment of EON, ION, and FON.
  • Ensure project delivery in accordance with key objectives: safety, quality, timeliness, budget adherence, legal compliance, and hazard elimination.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Implement connection offers and agreements with transmission and distribution operators.
  • Establish metering requirements and design interfaces, ensuring registration and accreditation with regulatory bodies (Ofgem, NGESO, Elexon).
  • Review and write electrical specifications and interface schedules for projects.
  • Review electrical design studies and grid connection documentation to ensure compliance with technical specifications and UK legislation.
  • Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support for design interfaces, including NGESO and distribution operators, Balancing Mechanism, Grid Code processes, control & protection, SCADA, and communication architecture.
  • Manage Technical Queries, helping stakeholders understand NGESO and operator requirements.
  • Attend project, supplier, and Grid meetings, including factory acceptance tests and site progress meetings, both virtually and in person.
  • Report to Project Development and Delivery teams on grid connection and compliance progress, risks, and issues, proposing solutions.
  • Research and stay updated with technology advancements.

Experience & Education:

  • 3+ years’ experience in development/construction projects within the power sector.
  • MSc or MEng in Electrical Power Systems or Power Electronics, or equivalent experience.

Skills:

  • Proven track record in managing transmission/distribution grid connections and GB Grid Code/G99 compliance on 400kv projects.
  • Highly proficient in Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Project).
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
