The Role

  • To ensure safety standards in ACP are maintained and safe working procedures are implemented and adhered to at all levels. Reporting any accidents and near misses, to improve the Occupational Safety of personnel.
  • To carry out Safety and Housekeeping Audits on a regular basis to encourage improved performance.
  • Ensure that plant, departmental personnel, and contractors operate within and comply with statutory Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
  • To lead the departments approach to process safety across all equipment, including SIF proof testing and the management of change process.
  • Provide the technical and management expertise necessary to direct, lead and support a highly skilled, multi-disciplined team providing an Electrical service which will enable the Department to operate at a level of availability and performance within agreed standards.
  • Ensure that Capital, Revenue and Maintenance programmes are carried out efficiently and within budgets. The Lead Engineer will deputise on occasion for the Works Engineer in his absence.
  • Devise and develop planned maintenance, inspection schedules and ensure that they are implemented to meet statutory, quality and engineering requirements.
  • Manage and develop Engineers and Craft teams to satisfy current and long-term Business objectives.
  • Undertake 121 appraisals and personnel development plans.
  • Organise and manage the training and development of the Electrical craft teams.
  • Monitor and control expenditure on spares, materials, and labour to keep within agreed budgets.
    Identify and assist in the preparation of capital and revenue schemes.
  • Develop, prepare, and submit Major Maintenance, Capital, and Revenue proposals.
  • Negotiate contracts, organise, and control specialist contractors providing both on and off-site maintenance and services.
  • To monitor KPIs for the area of responsibility identify any deviation and implement corrective action.
  • To lead and co-ordinate investigations, identify root cause and implement solutions.
  • Determine and allocate the engineering resources and materials needed to satisfy the operational and engineering requirements of the plant. This must be achieved in line with the Company Asset Management Framework, utilising the relevant processes to optimise and improve the plant's availability for production.

Vision and Context

  • The Lead Electrical Engineer is responsible for the efficient management of his section of plant and taking an overall view on all matters electrical within the department be this electrical safety, policy or operational support to other areas not directly under his control.
  • They are expected to ensure continuous improvement in the standards of engineering, health and safety and environmental performance, such that set business objectives are met. They are responsible for manning, discipline, training, and standards of a highly technical, multi skilled workforce.
  • The Lead Electrical Engineer must keep abreast of technical developments to ensure improvements to both engineering and operational performance.
  • The job holder must have technical, operational, and practical experience to make immediate, considered judgements in breakdown situations, paying due regard to the safety and financial implications. This is against a background of continual pressure to satisfy and improve production requirements all of which could lead to out-of-hours working.
  • The Lead Electrical Engineer must keep abreast of all Departmental technical and managerial matters to readily deputise for his Engineering colleagues.

Required

  • The job holder will have a strong technical knowledge of electrical principles, control and systems engineering including PLC's HMI and SCADA packages.
  • At least 5 years' experience in either a supervisory or technical role and must hold one of the following qualifications Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent HND or HNC.
  • Should have a good working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and the application in a Steelworks environment.
  • Effective people manager with the necessary leadership skills to motivate a diverse workforce.
  • Strong Drive, Motivation and Commitment: the extent to which the individual is self-starting and self-motivated and the degree and consistency of energy / enthusiasm which is committed in the pursuit of objectives and business goals.
  • The post holder should have good analytical skills and the ability to assimilate, organise and analyse pertinent information for logic-based problem solving.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong electrical automation and instrumentation knowledge is required.
  • A knowledge of electric arc furnaces would also be preferable but not essential.
  • Able to communicate in clear concise manner, both in writing and orally, communicating honestly, clearly, and directly, making effective use of communication technology.
  • Computer literate with practical experience of electronic maintenance recording systems.
  • Project management skills.
  • A team worker, with a flexible approach to work.

This is a days role Monday to Friday 8am-4pm
