About the Team
The London Valuation department lies at the heart of Bonhams UK business with long established clients and fiduciary contacts. It is one of the fastest moving and most dynamic areas in the business responsible for multi-million high level consignments and the long term development of client relationships and business. The department works closely with its sister departments in Paris, New York and Los Angeles.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
In your role as Director of Valuation, you will carry out the following key responsibilities:
- Valuation sourcing and valuation management
- Managing the London Valuation team to generate and produce valuations for sale, and formal appraisals for probate and insurance purposes and oversee pitches for sale and high-level valuation business.
- Managing the department budget and setting the marketing strategy.
- Promoting the services offered by the valuation department to private clients, and in particular to intermediaries including lawyers, accountants, and Family offices and wealth managers.
- Ensuring our formal valuations for probate and insurance meet the highest standard of research and production.
- Sourcing goods for sale and negotiating with clients wishing to sell in the Bonhams global marketplace.
- Providing valuations at clients' homes, at Bonhams, and other premises
- Working with our specialist departments to finalise valuations and identify and manage client relationships.
- Working with valuation colleagues in the UK and Europe and the US on international valuations.
Key Skills & Attributes
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to manage and inspire colleagues.
- Auction house specialist or generalist background with 10 years of experience preferred.
- Experience with intermediaries like lawyers, family offices, insurance, an advantage.
- High quality customer services in the production of verbal and written valuations for sale, probate and insurance.
- Extensive knowledge of values and trends within the auction world.
- Extensive knowledge of the Auction/Trade environment, expertise in one or many expertise area are a plus.
