Head of Department

The Programme Leader x 2 will provide effective leadership and coordination of resources and staff for a range of programmes within the English & Maths Department. They will take part and contribute to the consistent delivery of high-quality teaching and learning across the curriculum area and take responsibility for the successful day-to-day operational running of the English department. The successful candidate will contribute to the monitoring of the quality of teaching and learning across the English department to achieve high standards and ensure consistency. Responsible for the day to day organisation (including appraisal) of specialist staff allocated to the programme area of English.
Provide appropriate reports to senior staff and other relevant colleagues about the English provision
Work with the relevant senior staff to provide effective leadership of a curriculum team including:
Enhance team performance
Curriculum planning/delivery
Undertake programme leadership responsibility including oversight of assessment, examinations processes, and Quality Assurance processes for the English department.
Ensure that the English curriculum area programmes are developed, designed, delivered and assessed in a relevant way and on a flexible basis to meet learner and employer needs.
Plan and deliver teaching/learning programmes using a flexible range of strategies, delivery, and assessment methods to maintain the high expectations of learners.
Monitor and evaluate the attendance, success and progression of students within the programme area of English.
Contribute to the monitoring of Key Performance Indicators and targets within the area
Ensure that effective curriculum planning and use of resources in the area meets the needs and demands of the college's strategic direction and financial imperatives.
Contribute to the Department SAR (Self-Assessment Report) and QIP (Quality Improvement Plan) as part of the Self-Assessment process.
Maintain and contribute to data sets for the English department
Contribute to the development of Cross College promotion activities e.g. open events, interviews, and taster sessions.
Participate in the development and marketing of the English department programmes and initiatives.
Maintain effective Quality Standards within the programme area ensuring compliance with Quality Assurance processes where appropriate including:
Programme/course Self-Assessment New Course Approval Assessment Planning, Co-ordination of the IQA process, Maintain quality of Teaching, Learning, Support and Assessment by sharing good practice. Actively promote and work within the policies, procedures, regulations and codes of conduct of the charity .
Be committed to personal professional/vocational development and participate in the College’s appraisal process and training and development activities as required. All employees are required to undertake such professional development and skills updating as required by the College and/or required by the changing demands of their role.
To work flexibly, which may include evenings, open days, and possibly weekends on an occasional basis
