Currently turning over £50M with a view to increase that to £60M over the next year. Role Summary: As the Pre-Construction Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the successful planning and execution of projects from inception through to delivery. This position is ideal for a professional with a robust civil engineering background, preferably with experience as a Setting Out Engineer, who has a proven track record in managing projects and client relationships. You will lead tenders, manage pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQs), and act as the key liaison for clients, ensuring a seamless handover to the project delivery teams. Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Management:
- Oversee the entire pre-construction phase, including project planning, budgeting, and scheduling.
- Coordinate and manage multi-disciplinary teams to align with project goals.
- Serve as the primary client contact throughout the pre-construction process.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and partners.
- Conduct client meetings to understand project requirements, address concerns, and provide ongoing updates.
- Lead the preparation and submission of tenders, bids, and PQQs.
- Collaborate with estimating and commercial teams to develop competitive, accurate bids.
- Analyse tender documents and contracts, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Provide technical expertise during design and planning phases, ensuring feasibility and industry compliance.
- Review engineering plans, specifications, and requirements, offering feedback and recommendations.
- Ensure pre-construction activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Facilitate a smooth transition from pre-construction to the project delivery teams.
- Ensure all documentation is complete and accurate for handover.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Professional accreditation (e.g., CEng, MICE) is desirable.
- Minimum of 10 years in the construction industry, focusing on civil engineering projects.
- Experience as a Setting Out Engineer is highly desirable.
- Proven expertise in managing pre-construction activities, including tendering, bidding, and client engagement.
- Demonstrated experience running projects from conception to completion.
- Strong leadership and management abilities, with potential for growth into a director-level role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to build and maintain strong client relationships.
- Proficiency in project management and estimating software.
- Thorough understanding of construction contracts, procurement processes, and industry regulations.
- Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills.
- Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- A collaborative team player who can also work independently.
