QSW - Childrens - Team Manager - Children with Disabilities

Your new Team
The Children with Disabilities Team is part of the broader 0-25 Service for Children and Young People with Disabilities. This service includes teams specialising in Occupational Therapy, Preparing for Adulthood, and Short Breaks. The team’s primary focus is supporting children aged 0-18 and their families. Additionally, they ensure that young people are prepared for their future as young adults. Specifically, the team assists children and young people with severe/profound disabilities and complex health needs. The Team Manager oversees daily operations, provides structured supervision to social workers and assistants, and manages a caseload that includes safeguarding, court work, and support for families. Collaboration with colleagues from Preparing for Adulthood helps facilitate a smooth transition into adulthood for young people aged 18 and above.

Key Skills & Abilities

Legislation and Policies:
  • Understand and work within legal frameworks, guidance, and divisional policies.
  • Be accountable to senior officers.
Effective Communication:
  • Relate well to children, parents, and carers, especially during stressful situations.
Supervision and Support:
  • Supervise and support junior staff dealing with challenging cases.
Collaboration:
  • Work as a team member and build professional partnerships with colleagues from various agencies, foster carers, residential workers, and health/education professionals.
  • Promote a positive image of the division and department.
Meeting Facilitation:
  • Chair statutory, multidisciplinary meetings and take accurate notes.
Problem-Solving and Assessment:
  • Analyse complex situations and develop appropriate assessment and intervention programs alongside service users.
Clear Communication:
  • Communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain concise case records and produce reports for various purposes.
Time Management:
  • Effectively manage working time to meet professional priorities and administrative requirements.
Creativity and Resourcefulness :
  • Think creatively to meet children’s and families’ needs using community networks and external resources.
Team Development:
  • Contribute to team development through presentations, discussions, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
Quality Assurance:
  • Devise and implement quality assurance systems for the team.

  • Demonstrate understanding, knowledge, and skills in valuing diversity.

Required Knowledge

Legal Knowledge:
  • Understand the Children Act 1989 and other relevant laws, regulations, and guidance.
  • Be aware of the new assessment framework.

  • Know about the various services available to children and families.
  • Understand the organisational framework for providing these services.
Child Development and Family Dynamics :
  • Have knowledge of child development.
  • Understand family functioning and dynamics.
Social Work Methods:
