What you’ll be doing

This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate extensively with stakeholders across the whole of Retail, providing insightful regulatory, operational and conduct risk expertise that enables the Society to take opportunities and manage risks in pursuit of its objectives.

You will be leading and providing challenge on Retail-wide risk activity with a breadth of stakeholders, be data led and forward looking to resolve issues, identify and evaluate the relevant risks and focus on the big things.

You will understand what the business wants to do, know which risks apply, and your support and constructive challenge will enable senior stakeholders to make the right decisions that deliver good customer outcomes.

You will be expected to be flexible, growth minded and have an opinion, and you will need to be comfortable speaking up.

About you
  • A proven track record in risk management with a history of working in operational risk roles in the financial industry.
  • Have demonstrable experience applying risk management practices, working with senior stakeholders and coaching others.
  • Confident presenting and eloquent in the way you explain process improvements, risk and control and the impact non-compliance may have, using words and terms that people understand.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships at all levels and build credibility quickly across a breadth of Retail and Risk
  • Strong reasoning skills supported by a logical approach and attention to detail to allow you to draw conclusions from ambiguity and join up the dots
  • Excellent written (Powerpoint and Word) and verbal communication skills to produce clearly articulated and thought through risk assessments and governance papers.
  • Have a strong ability to identify / drive improvements to create a best-in-class risk partnering experience.
  • Motivated self-starter who is able to manage workloads and competing priorities.
  • Have the confidence to not only identify problems but to collaborate with stakeholders to identify a solution and lead from the front to deliver it.
  • Ability to coach and support team members and wider stakeholders whilst remaining professional and having a positive and pragmatic approach.
  • Track record in being data led and be able to draw insight from multiple sources to build a picture.
  • It would be an advantage to have an IRM or equivalent risk management qualification and a working knowledge of MetricStream and ARIS.
