Storage & Backup Engineer

Greater London

On-Site Role (4 Days a week in the Data Centre)

Up to £100k (Package Includes £15k Bonus, 15% Pension, 27 Days Holiday, Full Family HC+)

Storage and Backup Engineer to join my clients Technology Infrastructure Services team. The ideal candidate will possess a broad range of technical knowledge, specializing in Storage & Backup administration, service delivery, and automation. This role requires expertise in managing enterprise-level Storage (SAN/NAS/Object) and Backup services across our global organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer hardware and software solutions for Enterprise Storage and Backup services
  • Design high-availability solutions for Storage and Backup platforms
  • Implement and maintain Storage and Backup systems, including capacity planning, performance tuning, patching, monitoring, and upgrades
  • Develop and implement automation for routine Storage and Backup operations
  • Address Risk & Vulnerability remediation for Storage and Backup systems
  • Handle day-to-day operations (Business As Usual) for various Storage and Backup platforms
  • Support regional and local project management and system implementations
  • Maintain and update Storage and Backup knowledge base
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation and perform out-of-hours maintenance as needed

Storage & Backup Administration:

  • Design and implement high-availability Storage and Backup solutions.
  • Install, maintain, and upgrade hardware and software components.
  • Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and system monitoring.
  • Automate routine operations using Python or Linux Shell scripting.
  • Address risk and vulnerability remediation to maintain system security.
  • Handle service requests, incidents, and changes for platforms like NetApp, Isilon, NetBackup, Data Domain, PowerMax, and VMAX.

Collaboration & Support:

  • Work closely with global teams to enhance systems and processes.
  • Collaborate on regional and local projects and system implementations.
  • Maintain and update the Storage and Backup knowledge base.
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation and perform off-hours maintenance as required.

Essential:

  • Extensive experience with NetBackup version 10 and above.
  • Proficiency with Data Domain and DD Boost.
  • Strong knowledge of data replication technologies:
  • NetApp SnapMirror
  • Data Domain MTree replication
  • NetBackup Auto Image Replication (AIR)
  • Automation skills using Python and Linux Shell scripting.

Desirable:

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure or Amazon AWS cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with code version control tools like GitHub or Bitbucket.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs for infrastructure service abstraction.
  • Knowledge of storage and backup management tools (VIPR SRM, SYMCLI, Unisphere).
  • Experience deploying resources using Terraform in public cloud environments.
  • Understanding of cloud services (VM/EC2, Security Groups, EBS, Firewalls, KMS, S3).
