The Role:

The STEM programme is delivered through practical hands-on workshops, family events and teacher training within four key themes: Aerospace, Green Energy, Environmental Science, and Sustainable Design. These themes link to the vision of The King’s Foundation and support the industry skills gap at local and national level.

The post holder will develop and teach a wide range of STEM subjects to primary and secondary schools, utilizing the natural resources in the surroundings to embed key concepts.

Key Tasks

Specific Duties will include:

Supporting the Curriculum Manager to ensure the smooth delivery of the King’s Foundation’s education strategy and core STEM programmes by:

  • Designing and delivering STEM workshops and activities to primary and secondary school pupils, and their career influencers that incorporate The Curriculum For Excellence, Learning for Sustainability, and the Principles of Harmony.
  • Carrying out, and reviewing risk assessments for STEM education activities, following procedures for first aid and incident reporting.
  • Keeping up to date with current practices and policies in STEM education and industry, through networking, CPD and personal development.
  • Supporting development of a new local and international STEM programmes as they come on board.

Supporting the Curriculum Manager to build and maintain relationships with funders and partners by:

  • Assisting the STEM Curriculum Manager with compiling evidence for annual reports and newsletters for directors, funders and partners.
  • Seeking opportunities to build and maintain relationships with industry and education stakeholders.

Supporting the Curriculum Manager to maintain the STEM education facilities and equipment by:

  • Preparing, and maintaining equipment and facilities to a high standard prior to and following education activity, monitoring and requesting stock as appropriate.
  • Supporting the STEM manager to ensure that the maintenance of the STEM building(s) is completed.

Contributing to the overall education aims of The King’s Foundation by:

  • Further the wider education work of The King’s Foundation through contribution to team meetings, joint education activity and events and cross curricular CPD sessions.
  • Maintain familiarity with The King’s Foundation handbook and relevant HR procedures.
  • Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required of you in the post.

Person Specification

Essential Experience and knowledge:

  • Recent and relevant STEM industry or STEM education experience or be educated to degree level in a relevant STEM subject.
  • Prior experience educating and engaging with young people or community groups through STEM activities.
  • Able to develop STEM learning resources linked into curriculum themes.

Essential Qualities:

  • Able to represent The King’s Foundation professionally at all times.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication and presentation skills, organisation skills.
  • Ability to work proactively and flexibly to achieve set objectives.
  • The ability to work well within a team, maintaining positive relationships with the wider education staff.
  • Ability to create high quality presentations/visual aids. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (e.g. PowerPoint, Excel and Word), Windows, Adobe.

Desirable experience, knowledge and qualities are:

  • Knowledge of the future UK wide STEM skills shortage, growth industries and how this impacts employers and future employees.
  • Knowledge of the education environment in schools and further education.
  • Awareness of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Experience in engineering, aerospace and or digital skills will be prioritised due to anticipated upcoming project opportunities.

Other:

  • The post will be based at Dumfries House, Cumnock, KA18 2NJ with the requirement to travel on occasion.
  • Your working hours will be Full Time, 37.5 hours per week.
  • You must have the legal right to work in the UK.
  • This position will be on a fixed term contract for maternity cover.
  • Willingness to work occasional weekends or evenings as required for education or wider estate events, with a TOIL system in place.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required.
