As a SQL Database Engineer at LexisNexis Intellectual Property (LNIP), you will be designing, building, and maintaining complex data systems to support business needs. Utilizing your expertise, you’ll contribute to maintaining a Data Platform that serves our crucial and critical product. Your role will be critical in ensuring the integrity, security, and accessibility of business-critical data.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily data loads, ensuring recurring updates are logged and tracked efficiently using SQL-based tools.
  • Interface with technical personnel to document, interpret, and finalize SQL-related requirements for data engineering projects.
  • Produce efficient, defect-free code adhering to best practices and coding standards.
  • Write and review detailed specifications for the development of data components.
  • Address complex data engineering bug fixes and issues, researching and identifying root causes using advanced querying techniques.
  • Identify opportunities to automate tasks to improve overall efficiency in data engineering processes.
  • Design and work with complex data models, optimizing them for SQL-based database systems.
  • Perform routine database administration tasks, including monitoring performance, managing backups, index optimization, and ensuring data integrity.
  • Innovate process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of SQL-based data management.
  • Identify areas for cross-team collaboration to improve overall data quality and efficiency, implementing initiatives to enhance capabilities.
  • Design and work with complex data models, optimizing them for SQL-based database systems.

Requirements

  • Advanced proficiency in SQL, including complex queries, performance tuning, and database administration (DBA) tasks.
  • Expertise in data manipulation language optimization techniques.
  • Strong understanding of normalized and dimensional data modelling principles.
  • Proficiency in multiple data storage subsystems, with a focus on SQL-based databases.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices in data engineering, with a specific focus on SQL.
  • Proficiency in SSIS is a major plus. Additionally, Azure Data Factory / AWS Glue would be advantageous.
  • Solid project management skills, including the ability to lead complex data engineering projects.
  • Understanding of automation and other tools to increase efficiency in SQL-based data engineering tasks.
  • Strong problem-solving and research skills, with an emphasis on troubleshooting SQL-related issues.
  • Attention to detail in designing and implementing complex data models and SQL queries.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for effectively conveying technical concepts to various stakeholders.
