Head of American Friends Fundraising

Welburn North Yorkshire, United Kingdom The English Heritage Trust Full time €65,138

Head of American Friends Fundraising

All the relevant skills, qualifications and experience that a successful applicant will need are listed in the following description.
We’re the organisation that looks after England’s most important buildings and monuments, making sure our country’s amazing history is available for everyone to enjoy. From world-famous prehistoric sites to grand medieval castles, Roman forts to a Cold War bunker, we bring the history of England to life.
We are looking for a Head of American Friends Fundraising to join our Development Department on a full time, permanent basis.
You will be joining a growing Development Department which prides itself on a culture of collaboration and where all of our members have the ability to act as an ambassador for the wider charity.

The Benefits
  • Salary from £65,138, depending on skills, experience and location
  • 25 days’ holiday plus Bank Holidays pro rata rising to 28 days after 3 years
  • Matched pension contributions up to a maximum of 10%
  • Flexible hours
  • The opportunity to progress your career within the heritage sector
  • Apprenticeship opportunities
  • Subscriptions to professional bodies
  • Free access to all English Heritage sites for you and up to 6 friends / family members
  • 25% discount in our shops and cafes
  • Enhanced Maternity/Paternity/Shared Parental leave
  • Options to buy additional leave
  • An inclusive working atmosphere where everyone from all backgrounds, religions and with different needs will be supported
  • Opportunities to go to some of our great live music or history events

This is an incredible opportunity for a person who has experience of creating, developing and delivering a fundraising strategy that supports philanthropic income growth from American supporters.
What’s more, as part of our charity bringing history to life, you’ll be supported and encouraged to share your ideas, inspire others and make a difference to the way England’s rich past is experienced.
This is a new position that will build on the embryonic fundraising efforts and connection started in the last 3 years. American Friends of English Heritage is a registered 501(c)3 organisation with the IRS and we have a small following of US based supporters. You will be responsible for developing and delivering a strategy that will significantly grow US based support. In doing so you will grow your team and ensure our American Friends are authentically part of the EHT supporter family.
As our Head of American Friends Fundraising, you will work with an established, performing fundraising team to grow resources and the portfolio of fundraising opportunities. You will ensure English Heritage Trust has the right approach to garner such support and will work closely with peers and the Development Director to continue embedding fundraising in the charity.
You will work closely with your Development peers to garner support from individuals, private foundations, grant-giving bodies and corporations based in the US. You will ensure EHT has the right products to support philanthropic giving from our American supporters.
This post will be based in England, with frequent trips to the US and close working with our American Friends of English Heritage Trustees and partners.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Significant fundraising experience (minimum of 5 years) with a track record of soliciting six and seven figure gifts/grants from a broad range of funders, including HNWI, trusts and foundations.
  • Experience of soliciting gifts from American based supporters.
  • A track record in identifying and maintaining relationships with high value funders.
  • Experience of delivering impactful cultivation, stewardship and engagement events and communication plans, ensuring supporters feel valued and informed.
  • Strategic relationship and partnership development.
  • A knowledge of the US tax system in relation to philanthropy.

Find out more about us and what we do here, meet some of our People and hear about why they enjoy working with us on our website.
Everyone is welcome at English Heritage. We are always looking for people who reflect the diversity of the country today, to help us make it more relevant to the diversity of the people, communities and places we serve. From remote sites to inner city monuments, from regional teams to our Head Office, the diversity of our teams is critical to making sure our heritage is inclusive, exciting and accessible. We continually look for new ways to promote the past in a way that is inclusive to all and that celebrates the cultural diversity of England`s heritage. By joining us, you will be part of a charity that is already on an exciting journey to tell everyone’s story with an inclusive working atmosphere where everyone from all backgrounds, religions and with different needs will be supported. To support this work, we have a number of EDI networks that you can join as either a member or ally. These networks include Ethnic Diversity, Faith & Belief, Social Equity, LGBTQ+, Neurodivergence, Age, Disability and Gender Specific Issues.
No agencies please.
Interviews will be held on the week commencing 18th September at our London office.
