About the role:

The purpose of the Datacentre and Network Infrastructure Engineer is to be responsible for installation, configuration, operation and maintenance of the wired and wireless network, data centre and communication room critical infrastructure.

  • The post holder will also provide datacentre and network service provision and customer support.
  • The post holder will provide mentoring, training and support to other ISD team members.

Skills and Experience required:

  • Experience of working in a datacentre, communications room or similar environment with a mixed range of technologies
  • Experience of installing and supporting data networks within a large organisation, located across a number of sites and supporting wired and wireless networks across multiple platforms (eg PC, Mac)
  • Understanding of the issues involved in central management of very large numbers of systems, that are geographically distributed, and the need for strict change control
  • Working knowledge of network technologies, hardware and infrastructure, experience in the design, deployment and support of switched networks
  • Knowledge of network security principles, and experience of their application in a complex and diverse network environment Commitment to the provision of a high-quality user-focused service Experience of using an online fault logging/tracking system
  • Knowledge of Cisco IOS Experience of using a cable management system to trace infrastructure and installation details
  • Excellent problem solving skills including an ability to diagnose complex hardware and software faults
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure including ability to multitask and prioritise work
  • Professional and supportive towards colleagues, staff, students and others
  • The ability to work as part of a team with minimum day-to-day supervision and a willingness to share knowledge with colleagues
  • The post holder will also be able to demonstrate the following ways of working indicators:

-Switching easily between tasks for different groups and stakeholders

-Documenting and sharing solutions

-Anticipating issues and adjusting approaches when necessary
