Reports to: Partners and Senior Paralegal
Assist and provide a range of legal and administrative support to the firm's immigration attorneys. The successful candidate will have a particular focus on the investor visa and intracompany transfer categories but will be expected to undertake a variety of other tasks as and when required. This is a position for an exceptional candidate with a UK or US legal background, excellent writing and critical thinking skills, superb administrative skills, outstanding customer care skills, and a top academic background. The responsibilities of the position are both legal and administrative. Legal Duties :
• Drafting professional and accurate applications to be presented to US Embassies and United States Citizenship and Immigration Service on behalf of clients.
• Identifying legal and practical issues associated with each case and the appropriate action to be taken at each stage, bearing in mind proposed timelines.
• Correspond in a professional manner with a range of clients and be able to manage client expectations by discussing matters on the phone and via email.
• Assist on the entirety of cases as well as ‘ad hoc’ duties for any given matter.
• Write legally accurate letters of advice summarizing complex legal principles in a clear manner.
• Produce accurate attendance notes documenting telephone calls and meetings.
• Create and update legal precedents for the firm including immigration questionnaires, general informative letters, and template support letters.
• Field calls from prospective clients; ask relevant questions and gather relevant information for attorney analysis.
• Research USCIS, US Embassy London as well as overseas procedures and practices by using electronic legal databases, primary sources, and relevant consulate and embassy websites.
Attending weekly immigration meetings (internal).
• Adding and updating contacts on our database.
• Supporting the office manager in ad-hoc tasks and special projects.
The successful applicant will possess the following skills and qualities:
• A university degree with a strong academic background.
• The ability to effectively prioritize and administer tasks as well as a flexibility to do occasional work outside of office hours.
• An excellent understanding in all Microsoft office packages and office technology including image manipulation, diagram creation and file conversion skills.
This role is ideal for an experienced US immigration paralegal seeking to join a highly experienced, collegiate and well-run team or a top UK law graduate interested in getting a significant amount of practical, hand-on experience while gaining exposure to a fascinating area of the law.
