Laing O'Rourke are looking for a Section Engineer to work on a major power infrastructure project on behalf of the National Grid - Great Grid Upgrade. The Grimsby to Walpole overhead line scheme is one of 17 major infrastructure projects which together form The Great Grid Upgrade - expanding and updating the existing electricity network. The 140 km Grimsby to Walpole New Connection will provide new high voltage overhead transmission lines in Lincolnshire between Grimsby West Substation and a new Walpole Substation, near Walton Highway with a further five new 400 kV substations built along the route. Installation requires temporary and permanent diversions of existing overhead routes, temporary access roads, highway works, temporary works compounds, work sites. utility diversions and drainage work. The Section Engineer will be responsible for the site management of the geotechnical and archaeological investigation works scheduled to commence in February 2026. The successful candidate will be working for a Project Engineer and alongside a Construction Manager, to manage and deliver the scheduled package of work. A Section Engineer is technically responsible for, and able to manage, a section of works. They typically supervise and manage a team of 2 to 4 technicians and site engineers. Role Ensuring project delivery, inclusive planning, mobilisation and execution, in strict accordance with LOR & NGET policies and procedures ensuring compliance and adherence to industry standards. Reporting any contract and subcontract management activities, ensuring effective contract administration and coordination with subcontractors. Feedback on any additional site survey requirements to ensure comprehensive project understanding and risk management. Undertaking effective health and safety management in line with the approved plan of works Ensuring consents/planning conditions/CDM areas/ third party interface arrangements are followed in line with the agreed plan Ability to utilise a digital engineering model to provide information to create Visual Method Statements and Visual Task sheets. Ensures compliance with the LOR Management of Temporary works procedure on projects. Ensures that project and company quality procedures are adhered and that they fully address specification and contractual obligations. Record lessons learned and capture knowledge for future projects Use BIM and digital tools to enhance preconstruction output Inputs into method statements and risk assessments Requirements First degree in Civil Engineering Discipline, other construction related degree, or an industry recognised technical or engineering qualification (e.g. HNC, HND, NVQ level 4) plus demonstrable experience in a construction delivery environment. Circa 5 years relevant technical / practical experience within an engineering role.
