Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust has a vision to be recognized as a world-class hospital, leading the field through innovative healthcare solutions, focusing on the best outcomes for our patients, delivered in a safe, caring and inspiring environment.

We are seeking a dynamic consultant colleague to join our friendly and cohesive team in the Portsmouth Breast Unit. As such, the successful candidate will bring a specialist interest in breast imaging sufficient to participate fully in the Portsmouth Breast Screening Programme and the local symptomatic breast service. A minimum of four PAs will be dedicated to this work. There will be an expectation a full-time commitment would include a contribution to the acute work of the radiology department.

  • Reporting screening and symptomatic mammograms
  • Reporting screening and symptomatic breast MRI
  • Assessment clinics are routinely shared and led by a pair of consultant radiologists supported by specialist breast care nurses, radiographers, radiographic department assistants and surgeons
  • Involvement in symptomatic fast-track clinics: patients are triaged so may be seen initially by a surgeon or a radiologist. The radiologists perform the majority of biopsies, most during each patient’s initial attendance
  • Contribution to the general imaging workload of the department including ultrasound, CT and plain film reporting with acute out-of-hours and weekend working duties according to the departmental rota
  • Supporting the ethos of service redesign with flexible working, role extension and mentoring of junior and paramedical colleagues
