Purpose of the role & how you will contribute:

LEAF is seeking to appoint an education specialist based in the East of England to join its highly regarded national education team. You will work with teachers, farmers, young people and others in the agri-food sector to encourage learning about food, farming and the environment in a wide variety of ways – in school, virtually and on farm. This is an exciting role offering you scope to be innovative in your approach.


It is essential that Education Specialists:

· Have full Qualified Teacher Status.

· Have a minimum of 3 years’ recent teaching experience.

· Can provide evidence of supporting trainee teachers / ECTs (desirable.)

· Have a clear understanding of an area of curriculum and show a willingness to learn and implement the EYFS, Primary and Secondary curricula.

· Demonstrate an interest in farming, food production and the natural environment.

· Have experience with planning, leading or implementing educational visits (desirable.)

· Present a broad and balanced view of farming, food production and the environment which aligns to LEAF’s core aims and objectives.

· Possess excellent networking and relationship building skills, to use when working with a diverse

range of partners.

· Can demonstrate good communication and presenting skills, competent with basic IT.

· Can deliver work virtually, both ‘live’ through online video platforms and pre-recorded materials.

· Show self-awareness, being able to evaluate and reflect on their own practice.

· Can manage their own time within agreed parameters.


Education Specialist Role Description:

· Design an agreed termly programme of opportunities including elements such as: teacher workshops/meetings/events, seminars for farmers and growers, visits to schools, participation in conferences/shows/events, talks/training at initial teacher training sessions and support for newly qualified teachers.

· Coordinate and/or deliver projects within the region and/or nationally and provide detailed monthly breakdown of the project, against outputs, budgets, and impact points.

· Undertake regular monitoring, evaluation and reporting on activity against agreed aims and objectives.

· Forge and maintain relationships with members and partner organisations.

· Network effectively with members, rural organisations/initiatives, land-based colleges, and societies in your region.

· Broaden contacts with farmers and growers and support them to work with schools and offer farm visits.

· Deliver accredited farmer and teacher training programmes (this will form part of the initial training within the role – including initial observations and co-delivery).

· Develop the membership base in your region.

· Develop strong links with schools and teachers in your region.

· Maintain an up-to-date understanding of resources, curricula, exam specifications and educational initiatives from EYFS to Key Stage 5 with support from the wider education team.

· Plan, manage and host small projects and events (e.g. workshops and seminars).

· Work with our national fundraiser to support bids relating to your region and co-operate with funders on delivering against their requirements.

· Seek opportunities to expand LEAF’s educational outreach within your region and/or nationally.


As part of the LEAF education and public engagement team:

· Attend team meetings and professional development sessions, including a minimum of one annual residential (usually in the summer term).

· Write and contribute to educational resources and briefings.

· Collaborate with team members to share good practice and experience.

· Occasionally operate in other parts of England working with another member of the team, for example leading a seminar in another region, or delivering training.

· Contribute to national bids for funding and report on impact.

· Assist with the development of the LEAF’s education programmes.

· Contribute towards the evaluation of LEAF’s education work.

· Any other appropriate activity or project as directed by the Education Manager.

· Based in the East of England and willing and able to travel across England (where required) as part of the team.
