Winchester, United Kingdom Tech Camp Full time

Purpose:

To manage a team of course tutors and camp participants at the residential camp and ensure a high-quality camp provision. This is a perfect opportunity for a recently graduated teacher with some experience already working in schools, or someone undertaking a PGCE or similar who already has experience in managing other staff professionally, to gain more experience in education and working with children, in a fun and exciting holiday camp environment. The role could also suit someone who has not worked in education but who nonetheless has considerable experience with children and in managing staff.

Key Requirements:

  • You must be available from 27 July to 23 August 2024.
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent people-management and team-working skills
  • Proven experience working with groups of young people, including the confidence to lead campers in meetings and activities and deal with discipline situations as they arise
  • Good written and oral communication skills; you will be the face of Tech Camp to campers and their parents
  • DBS Certification – Tech Camp will obtain this on your behalf if necessary.
  • Paediatric First Aid Certificate (Tech Camp will pay for this 1-day training course if needed at a venue local to you)

Hours and days:

This is a “live-in” position and as such requires duties and/or being on call for much of the day and evening from around 8am until 10pm but there are large portions of the day (when campers are in courses) when you can manage your own periods of time off as long as you are contactable in case of emergency and present on-site. You will generally receive time off between late afternoon / early evening every Friday and the following Sunday morning (except the initial training/setup weekend).

Primary duties:

  • Lead the staff and students at camp and ensure that campers benefit from and enjoy the courses
  • Oversee and maintain up-to-date, accurate & clear records
  • Lead meetings with staff to brief them on logistics, safeguarding, safety and other issues as required
  • Lead camper group meetings
  • Support tutors and deal directly with any difficult, challenging or concerning behaviour of campers
  • Manage day-to-day staff timetabling and management
  • Manage and oversee the initial “meet and greet”
  • Ensure all day campers are registered and signed in and out each day and to chase-up any late/no-show day campers, ensure reporting procedures are followed
  • Deal with parental queries via phone, email and in person
  • Visit courses regularly during the day and conduct lesson observations to ensure tutors are meeting expectations and courses are engaging for campers.
  • Oversee lunch-time, breaks and activity sessions
  • Be the primary first-aider, including maintaining the incident report log for accidents and the medication log
  • Oversee the final pack-up at camp with tutors to ensure that rooms are left clean and tidy and raise any issues, such as damage or breakages with the MD.

Supplementary Residential Duties:

  • Administer and oversee the arrival of residential campers and related issues
  • Run the ice-breaking activities during the first evening of camp
  • Administer and supervise the tutor group emails to parents
  • Organise and oversee evening activities
  • Be on-call overnight in case of emergencies referred to you by duty staff. On rare occasions, you
  • may need to accompany a camper to hospital if a medical emergency arises
  • Confirm and finalise travel arrangements for overseas campers.
